The anatomical structure of the human is an interesting topic to deal and study with. It is significant to know the different parts and systems that make up the body. Dorsal and ventral are categorized as the body cavities. These terms describe the location where the essential parts of the body are resided. What are dorsal and ventral? What can they do to the human body?

Dorsal is the structure of the body situated in the upper portion of the back. It is originated from the Latin word “dorsum” which means “situated at the back.” It is otherwise known as the posterior. It comprises of cranial, vertebral and thoracic cavity. To elaborate it further, it protects the brain, spinal cord, heart and lungs. On the other hand, ventral is the part of the human body located in the front portion. It is derived from the Latin word, “venter” which pertains to belly. It constitutes the abdominal and pelvic cavity. It safeguards the digestive and reproductive organs. Another name for the ventral is called anterior. These anatomical cavities serve as the protection of the internal organs of the human body to prevent them from being injured or damaged.
